OVERVIEW

PCRE version 8.02 has been released correcting a security
        vulnerability.

IMPACT

The vendor has provided the following information regarding this
        vulnerability:

"The checks for overrunning compiling workspace could trigger after
an overrun had occurred. This is a "should never occur" error, but
it can be triggered by pathological patterns such as hundreds of
nested parentheses. The checks now trigger 100 bytes before the end
        of the workspace." [1]

This vulnerability can reportedly be used to overflow the buffer
which would lead to the execution of arbitrary code, or possibly a
        Denial of Service (Dos) [2].

MITIGATION

Version 8.02 is available for download from the vendor's website.[3]
