OVERVIEW

        A vulnerability has been identified in VLC media player, prior to
        version 1.1.3.


IMPACT

        The vendor has provided the following description of this 
        vulnerability which has been assigned CVE-2010-2397:
        
        "VLC fails to perform sufficient input validation when trying to 
        extract some meta-informations about input media through ID3v2 tags. 
        In the failure case, VLC attempt dereference an invalid memory 
        address, and a crash will ensure." [1]


MITIGATION

        The vendor recommends upgrading to the latest version of VLC. [1]
