OVERVIEW

        Multiple vulnerabilities have been fixed in Wireshark 1.8.3.


IMPACT

        The vendor has provided the following information:
        
        CVE-2012-5237:
        "It may be possible to make Wireshark consume excessive CPU resources
        by injecting a malformed packet onto the wire or by convincing someone
        to read a malformed packet trace file." [1]
        
        CVE-2012-5238:
        "It may be possible to make Wireshark crash by injecting a malformed
        packet onto the wire or by convincing someone to read a malformed
        packet trace file." [2]
        
        CVE-2012-5239:
        "It may be possible to make Wireshark consume excessive CPU resources
        by injecting a malformed packet onto the wire or by convincing someone
        to read a malformed packet trace file." [3]
        
        CVE-2012-5240:
        "It may be possible to make Wireshark crash by injecting a malformed
        packet onto the wire or by convincing someone to read a malformed
        packet trace file." [4]


MITIGATION

        Users should upgrade to Wireshark 1.8.3 or later. [5]
