-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA256 =========================================================================== AUSCERT Security Bulletin ASB-2015.0048.2 Two vulnerabilities have been corrected in WordPress 4.2.2 4 August 2016 =========================================================================== AusCERT Security Bulletin Summary --------------------------------- Product: WordPress Operating System: UNIX variants (UNIX, Linux, OSX) Windows Impact/Access: Cross-site Scripting -- Remote with User Interaction Resolution: Patch/Upgrade CVE Names: CVE-2015-8834 Revision History: August 4 2016: Added CVE May 7 2015: Initial Release OVERVIEW Two vulnerabilities have been identified in WordPress prior to version 4.2.2. [1] IMPACT The vendor has provided the following details regarding the vulnerability: "The Genericons icon font package, which is used in a number of popular themes and plugins, contained an HTML file vulnerable to a cross-site scripting attack. All affected themes and plugins hosted on WordPress.org (including the Twenty Fifteen default theme) have been updated today by the WordPress security team to address this issue by removing this nonessential file. To help protect other Genericons usage, WordPress 4.2.2 proactively scans the wp-content directory for this HTML file and removes it. Reported by Robert Abela of Netsparker." [1] The second vulnerability exists due to an incomplete fix for a cross-site scripting vulnerability addressed in WordPress 4.2.1. [2] "WordPress versions 4.2 and earlier are affected by a critical cross-site scripting vulnerability, which could enable anonymous users to compromise a site. WordPress 4.2.2 includes a comprehensive fix for this issue." [1] MITIGATION The vendor strongly encourages users to update to the latest version.
