-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA256 =========================================================================== AUSCERT Security Bulletin ASB-2018.0201 Apache Struts 2 Vulnerability 23 August 2018 =========================================================================== AusCERT Security Bulletin Summary --------------------------------- Product: Apache Struts 2 Operating System: Windows UNIX variants (UNIX, Linux, OSX) Impact/Access: Execute Arbitrary Code/Commands -- Remote/Unauthenticated Resolution: Patch/Upgrade CVE Names: CVE-2018-11776 Member content until: Saturday, September 22 2018 OVERVIEW Apache Struts 2 is found with a possible remote code execution vulnerability for versions: o Struts 2.3 - Struts 2.3.34 o Struts 2.5 - Struts 2.5.16 [1] IMPACT The Apache Software Foundation has provided the following description of the impact for the vulnerability. "CVE Identifier : CVE-2018-11776" [1] "Impact of vulnerability : Possible Remote Code Execution when using results with no namespace and in same time, its upper action(s) have no or wildcard namespace. Same possibility when using url tag which doesn’t have value and action set." [1] MITIGATION Solution "Upgrade to Apache Struts version 2.3.35 or 2.5.17." [1] Workaround "Verify that you have set (and always not forgot to set) namespace (if is applicable) for your all defined results in underlying configurations. Also verify that you have set (and always not forgot to set) value or action for all url tags in your JSPs. Both are needed only when their upper action(s) configurations have no or wildcard namespace." [1] "This is a temporal weak workaround. Please upgrade to Apache Struts version 2.3.35 or 2.5.17 ASAP because they also contain critical overall proactive security improvements" [1] REFERENCES [1] Apache Struts 2 Documentation S2-057 https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/WW/S2-057 AusCERT has made every effort to ensure that the information contained in this document is accurate.
