                  October 28 2022: Initial Release

OVERVIEW

The OpenSSL Project has announced that OpenSSL version 3.0.7 is scheduled
        for Tuesday, November 1 2022 between 1300-1700 UTC [1][2].

        UPDATE 2/10/2022:

Official advisory with CVE identifiers (CVE-2022-3602, CVE-2022-3786)
and vulnerability details released by OpenSSL Project on 1/11/2022 [4][5].

IMPACT

This update is a security-fix release and includes a patch for a critical
vulnerability in the open source cryptography and secure communication toolkit [2].

        UPDATE 2/10/2022:

Vulnerability rating reduced from CRITICAL to HIGH, but may still lead to
remote code execution or crash on certain platforms and configurations [4][5].

MITIGATION

The update will only affect OpenSSL 3.0.x [1] [2].

For most systems, you will be able to use the below OpenSSL command line
        utility to know the version;

        % openssl version [3]

AusCERT encourages OpenSSL users to take note of the announcement
        and be prepared.

        UPDATE 2/10/2022:

The OpenSSL Project advises users of versions 3.0.0 - 3.0.6 to upgrade
to 3.0.7 as soon as possible [5].
They also note that users operating TLS servers should consider disabling
TLS client authentication, if it is being used, until fixes are applied [5].
