-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- =========================================================================== AUSCERT External Security Bulletin Redistribution ESB-2002.532 -- RHSA-2002:060-17 Updated Zope packages are available 30 September 2002 =========================================================================== AusCERT Security Bulletin Summary --------------------------------- Product: Zope Vendor: Red Hat Operating System: Red Hat Powertools 7.0 Red Hat Powertools 7.1 Platform: Alpha i386 Impact: Execute Arbitrary Code/Commands Denial of Service Access Privileged Data Access Required: Remote - --------------------------BEGIN INCLUDED TEXT-------------------- - --------------------------------------------------------------------- Red Hat, Inc. Red Hat Security Advisory Synopsis: Updated Zope packages are available Advisory ID: RHSA-2002:060-17 Issue date: 2002-04-11 Updated on: 2002-09-24 Product: Red Hat Powertools Keywords: zope security check proxy role hotfix Cross references: Obsoletes: RHSA-2001:115 CVE Names: CAN-2002-0170 CAN-2002-0687 CAN-2002-0688 - --------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Topic: Updated Zope packages are available which fix a number of security issues 2. Relevant releases/architectures: Red Hat Powertools 7.0 - alpha, i386 Red Hat Powertools 7.1 - alpha, i386 3. Problem description: Zope is a python-based application server. A number of security hotfixes have been made available for Zope: The "through the web code" capability for Zope 2.0 through 2.5.1 b1 allows untrusted users to shut down the Zope server via certain headers. (CAN-2002-0687) ZCatalog plug-in index support capability for Zope 2.4.0 through 2.5.1 allows anonymous users and untrusted code to bypass access restrictions and call arbitrary methods of catalog indexes. (CAN-2002-0688) Zope 2.2.0 through 2.5.1 does not properly verify the access for objects with proxy roles, which could allow some users to access documents in violation of the intended configuration. (CAN-2002-0170) Users should upgrade to these errata packages that have the Zope Hotfixes 2002-03-01, 2002-04-15, and 2002-06-14 applied, and are therefore not vulnerable to these issues. 4. Solution: Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata relevant to your system have been applied. To update all RPMs for your particular architecture, run: rpm -Fvh [filenames] where [filenames] is a list of the RPMs you wish to upgrade. Only those RPMs which are currently installed will be updated. Those RPMs which are not installed but included in the list will not be updated. Note that you can also use wildcards (*.rpm) if your current directory *only* contains the desired RPMs. Please note that this update is also available via Red Hat Network. Many people find this an easier way to apply updates. To use Red Hat Network, launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command: up2date This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate RPMs being upgraded on your system. 5.
