PROBLEM: The program /usr/lib/X11/Xserver/ucode/screens/hp/rs.F3000
may allow access to the daemon account.

IMPACT: Potential unauthorized access, denial of service.

PLATFORM: HP9000 Series 700/800 running HP-UX releases
          10.X and 11.X

SOLUTION: Remove execute permissions from rs.F3000.

MANUAL ACTIONS: Yes - NonUpdate
                Remove execute permissions from
                /usr/lib/X11/Xserver/ucode/screens/hp/rs.F3000

 ------------------------------------------------------------------
 A. Background
    /usr/lib/X11/Xserver/ucode/screens/hp/rs.F3000 supports the
Freedom series graphics devices. It is not needed by any
    other devices.

The SSRT thanks LSD Research Group (http://lsd-pl.net) for
reporting this potential vulnerability to HP.

 B. Recommended solution
Remove the execute permissions from rs.F3000:

       chmod 444 /usr/lib/X11/Xserver/ucode/screens/hp/rs.F3000

This will prevent the use of the Freedom graphics product with
the Xserver. Customers with the Freedom graphics product should
write to security-alert@hp.com for further information.
