Debian Security Advisory DSA 341-1 security@debian.org

July 7th, 2003 http://www.debian.org/security/faq
- - --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Package : liece
Vulnerability : insecure temporary file
Problem-Type : local
Debian-specific: no

liece, an IRC client for Emacs, does not take appropriate security
precautions when creating temporary files. This bug could potentially
be exploited to overwrite arbitrary files with the privileges of the
user running Emacs and liece, potentially with contents supplied
by the attacker.

For the stable distribution (woody) this problem has been fixed in
version 2.0+0.20020217cvs-2.1.

For the unstable distribution (sid) this problem has been fixed in
version 2.0+0.20030527cvs-1.

We recommend that you update your liece package.

Upgrade Instructions
- - --------------------

wget url
will fetch the file for you

If you are using the apt-get package manager, use the line for
sources.list as given below:

apt-get update
        will update the internal database
apt-get upgrade

You may use an automated update by adding the resources from the
footer to the proper configuration.
