  INITIAL RELEASE: 01 September 2004

POTENTIAL SECURITY IMPACT: Denial of Service

  SOURCE: HEWLETT-PACKARD COMPANY
                 HP Software Security Response Team

  REFERENCES: MS04-025

  VULNERABILITY SUMMARY:
Microsoft recently released a security vulnerability
patch to Internet Explorer (MS04-025) that prevents
users from logging in to HP Systems Insight Manager.

SUPPORTED SOFTWARE VERSIONS*: ONLY impacted versions are listed.
HP Systems Insight Manager 4.0 SP1
HP Systems Insight Manager 4.1 SP1

    BACKGROUND:

Microsoft recently released a security vulnerability
patch to Internet Explorer (MS04-025, documented
in Knowledge Base article KB867801) that changed
the behavior of how IE treats scripting and binary
objects. This creates an issue with HP Systems
Insight Manager with the symptom being the
apparent "hang" of the browser prior to the login
          prompts for credentials.

    RESOLUTION:
Access the SIM support site at

http://h18013.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/hpsim/index.html?jumpid=go/hpsim

Select the Download option in the left hand menu
Select the appropriate Version download and install the
          softpaq for either:

SIM HP Systems Insight Manager 4.0 SP1 - Windows
          SP26190
          - or -
SIM HP Systems Insight Manager 4.1 SP1 - Windows
