Adobe Security bulletin APSB08-12
Update available for ColdFusion 8 CFC method access level issue

Release date: April 8, 2008

Vulnerability identifier: APSB08-12

CVE number: CVE-2008-1656

Platform: All Platforms

Affected software versions: ColdFusion 8 and ColdFusion 8.0.1

Summary

CFC methods in ColdFusion 8 can be invoked from Flex 2 remoting even if the
access level is set to public. A malicious user could be able to access
functions not intended for remote use by the developer.

Solution

Adobe recommends ColdFusion 8 customers update their installation using the
instructions in TechNote 403328:

   http://www.adobe.com/go/kb403328

Severity rating

Adobe categorizes this as an important issue and recommends affected users
patch their installations.

Details

CFC methods in ColdFusion 8 can be invoked from Flex 2 remoting even if the
access level is set to public. Functions with access set to public should
only be available to a locally executing page or component method. A
malicious user could be able to access functions not intended for remote
use by the developer. This issue is remotely exploitable.
