Impact Multiple security vulnerabilities in the Tcl GUI Toolkit (libtk(3LIB)) may allow a remote unprivileged user who provides a specially crafted GIF image to cause a denial of service (DoS) to applications using the libtk library to process images or execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user running such applications. Additional information regarding these issues is available at: CVE-2008-0553 at http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2008-0553 CVE-2007-5378 at http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2007-5378 2. Contributing Factors This issue can occur in the following releases: SPARC Platform * Solaris 9 without patch 137910-01 * Solaris 10 without patch 137871-01 x86 Platform * Solaris 9 without patch 137911-01 * Solaris 10 without patch 137872-01 Note: Solaris 8 does not include support for libtk(3LIB) and is not impacted by this issue. 3. Symptoms If these issues are exploited to cause a Denial of Service (DoS), the application which makes use of the libtk(3LIB) library to process the crafted GIF image may crash. There are no predictable symptoms that would indicate that the issues have been exploited to execute arbitrary code or shell commands. 4. Workaround There is no workaround for these issues. Please see the Resolution section below. 5. Resolution These issues are addressed in the following releases: SPARC Platform * Solaris 9 with patch 137910-01 or later * Solaris 10 with patch 137871-01 or later x86 Platform * Solaris 9 with patch 137911-01 or later * Solaris 10 with patch 137872-01 or later For more information on Security Sun Alerts, see Technical Instruction ID 213557.
