Impact Solaris 10 systems using Solaris Volume Manager (SVM) where root is mirrored may experience multiple services failures (rpcbind(1M), network/physical) after installing patch 128306-03 (SPARC) or 128307-03 (x86). 2. Contributing Factors These issues can occur in the following releases: SPARC Platform * Solaris 10 with patch 128306-03 x86 Platform * Solaris 10 with patch 128307-03 Notes: 1. Solaris 10 Update 5 is not affected by this issue. 2. Solaris 8 and 9 are not affected by this issue. 3. Only systems with SVM configured with root mirrored are impacted by this issue. To determine if a system has SVM configured with root mirrored, the following command can be used: # grep 'rootdev:' /etc/system If the output contains 'md@', the system is likely affected. 3. Symptoms Systems that experience this issue will see multiple services failures on the order of rpcbind(1M) or network/physical. 4. Workaround This issue cannot be avoided by removing the patches listed. To work around this issue, a copy of the file "/etc/security/device_policy" that existed prior to the patch installation needs to be reinstated after the affected patches have been installed. 1) Prior to installing 128306-03 or 128307-03, a backup should be taken of the "/device_policy" file. If a backup was not taken, then a copy can be obtained using the following commands (or use 128307-03 for x86 systems): # cd /var/sadm/pkg/SUNWcsd/save/128306-03 # uncompress undo.Z # pkgtrans undo /tmp/all # compress undo # cd /tmp/SUNWcsd/reloc/etc/security # cp device_policy /etc/security/device_policy # patchrm 128306-03 # reboot # metasync 2) If a different patch backout directory was used during patch installation by using: # patchadd -B backout_dir then that location "backout_dir" needs to be used instead of the default location as used above (1). 5.
