   Bug ID: 6630105

   Product
   Solaris 10 Operating System

   Date of Workaround Release: 20-May-2008

   Date of Resolved Release: 06-Jun-2008

   SA Document Body
With Certain Solaris 10 patches installed, svccfg(1M) may remove External
Dependencies and leave the system Unbootable

   1. Impact

If the Solaris 10 command svccfg(1M) is run on systems with certain
VxVM 4.1 and VxVM 5.0 patches installed (as listed below), the system
may hang during a subsequent boot up.

   2. Contributing Factors

This issue can occur in the following releases:
   SPARC Platform
     * Solaris 10 systems (running VERITAS VxVM 4.1) with patch 117080-07
       (MP2)
     * Solaris 10 systems (running VERITAS VxVM 4.1) with patch 124358-03
       through 124358-05 (RPs for MP2)
     * Solaris 10 systems (running VERITAS VxVM 5.0) with patch 122058-09
       (MP1)
     * Solaris 10 systems (running VERITAS VxVM 5.0) with patch 124361-01
       through 124361-05 (RPs for MP1)

   x86 Platform
     * Solaris 10 systems (running VERITAS VxVM 4.1) with patch 120586-04
       (MP1)
     * Solaris 10 systems (running VERITAS VxVM 5.0) with patch 128060-02
       (RP1)

   Notes:
    1. Solaris 8 and Solaris 9 running VxVM 4.1 and VxVM 5.0 are not
       affected by this issue.
    2. The described issue only occurs on systems with EMC PowerPath
       software installed.

   3. Symptoms

The dependency for "powerstartup" is lost after running svccfg(1M)
when one of the patches mentioned is installed on the system.
Before installing one of the above listed VxVM patches:
       # svcs -l vxvm-sysboot
       fmri svc:/system/vxvm/vxvm-sysboot:default
name Veritas Volume Manager(VxVM) Init service.
       enabled true
       state online
       next_state none
       state_time Thu Apr 26 23:58:28 2007
       alt_logfile
   /etc/svc/volatile/system-vxvm-vxvm-sysboot:default.log
       restarter svc:/system/svc/restarter:default
       dependency optional_all/none svc:/system/emcpower/powerstartup
   (online)
       dependency require_all/none svc:/system/identity:node (online)
After installing one of the affected VxVM patches:
       # svcs -l vxvm-sysboot
       fmri svc:/system/vxvm/vxvm-sysboot:default
name Veritas Volume Manager(VxVM) Init service.
       enabled true
       state online
       next_state none
       state_time Fri Jul 13 18:38:47 2007
       alt_logfile
   /etc/svc/volatile/system-vxvm-vxvm-sysboot:default.log
       restarter svc:/system/svc/restarter:default
       dependency require_all/none svc:/system/identity:node (online)
Note that the dependency for powerstartup is lost. During the next
system reboot, the system will hang upon boot up with an error message
   similar to the following:
Boot device: disk File and args:
     Loading ufs-file-system package 1.4 04 Aug 1995 13:02:54.
     FCode UFS Reader 1.12 00/07/17 15:48:16.
     Loading: /platform/SUNW,Sun-Fire-V490/ufsboot
     Loading: /platform/sun4u/ufsboot

   "/var/svc/manifest/system/emcpower/powerpath_services.xml" manifest.

   5. Resolution

This issue is addressed in the following releases:
   SPARC Platform
     * Solaris 10 with patch 125551-02 or later

   x86 Platform
     * Solaris 10 with patch 125552-02 or later
