Impact A race condition security vulnerability in the Solaris pseudo-terminal driver (pty(7D)) module may allow a local unprivileged user to panic the system causing a Denial of Service (DoS). 2. Contributing Factors This issue can occur in the following releases: SPARC Platform * Solaris 8 without patch 113685-07 * Solaris 9 without patch 140426-01 * Solaris 10 without patch 140383-01 * OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_01 through snv_102 x86 Platform * Solaris 8 without patch 113686-06 * Solaris 9 without patch 140427-01 * Solaris 10 without patch 140384-01 * OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_01 through snv_102 Note: OpenSolaris distributions may include additional bug fixes above and beyond the build from which it was derived. To determine the base build of OpenSolaris, the following command can be used: $ uname -v snv_86 3. Symptoms If the described issue occurs, the system will panic with a stack trace similar to the following: panic: BAD TRAP: occurred in module "unix" due to a NULL pointer dereference unix:die() unix:trap() unix:ktl0() unix:putnext() genunix:strdoioctl() genunix:strioctl() ptc:ptcioctl() genunix:fop_ioctl() genunix:ioctl() 4.
