Updates available for RoboHelp and RoboHelp Server Cross-Site Scripting
issues

Release date: February 24, 2009

Vulnerability identifier: APSB09-02

CVE number: CVE-2009-0523, CVE-2009-0524

Platform: Windows

Summary

A specially crafted URL could be used to create a cross-site scripting
attack on RoboHelp installations.

Affected software versions

RoboHelp 7, RoboHelp 6, RoboHelp Server 7 and RoboHelp Server 6

Solution

Adobe strongly recommends users update their Robohelp installations by
applying both updates using the instructions below:

Update 1 (CVE-2009-0524)

   1. Download and unzip the RoboHelp 7 update file or the RoboHelp 6 update
      file.
   2. The file in WebHelp5Ext\template_stock folder should be copied to
      <installfolder>robohtml\ WebHelp5Ext\template_stock.
   3. The file in WildFireExt \template_stock folder should be copied to
      <installfolder>\robohtml\ WildFireExt \template_stock.
   4. Restart RoboHelp.
   5. Re-generate RoboHelp content.
   6. Replace existing content with newly generated RoboHelp content.

Update 2 (RoboHelp Server 7 and RoboHelp Server 6 only CVE-2009-0523)

   1. Download the update file.
   2. Copy and replace updated Report_Template.asp, redirect.asp and
      SQL_Lib.asp in <RHS-Install-Folder>\Reports folder.
   3. Restart IIS.
   4. Restart RoboHelp Server service.

Severity rating

Adobe categorizes this as an important issue and recommends affected users
patch their installations.

Details

A specially crafted URL could be used to create a cross-site scripting
attack against files generated by RoboHelp. This issue is remotely
exploitable. (CVE-2009-0524)

A specially crafted URL could be used to create a cross-site scripting
attack RoboHelp Server 7 and RoboHelp Server 6. An attacker would need to
have access to the RoboHelp Help Errors log, or convince someone with access
to the RoboHelp Help Errors log to click on a malicious URL, in order to
execute the attack. This specific issue does not apply to RoboHelp 7 or
RoboHelp 6 (non-Server releases). (CVE-2009-0523)

Acknowledgments

Adobe would like to thank Greg Patton of PropertyInfo Corporation
(CVE-2009-0523) and Robert Fly of SalesForce.com (CVE-2009-0524) for
reporting these vulnerabilities and for working with us to help protect our
customers' security.
