Impact Multiple security vulnerabilities exist in the Doors subsystem of the Solaris kernel which may allow a local unprivileged user to hang any door server process, which is a type of Denial of Service (DoS). These issues may also allow a local unprivileged user or a privileged user in a non-global zone the ability to access files without the necessary permissions or to potentially execute arbitrary code in the kernel context. 2. Contributing Factors These issues can occur in the following releases: SPARC Platform * Solaris 8 without patch 117350-61 * Solaris 9 without patch 122300-37 * Solaris 10 without patch 137137-05 * OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_01 through snv_93 x86 Platform * Solaris 8 without patch 117351-61 * Solaris 9 without patch 122301-37 * Solaris 10 without patch 137138-05 * OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_01 through snv_93 Note: OpenSolaris distributions may include additional bug fixes above and beyond the build from which it was derived. The base build can be derived as follows: $ uname -v snv_96 To identify if a process uses the Doors facility as a server, the following command can be run: # pfiles [pid] | grep 'door to' O_RDWR FD_CLOEXEC door to yourProcess[pid] 3. Symptoms There are no predictable symptoms that would indicate the described vulnerabilities have been exploited. 4. Workaround There is no workaround for these issues. Please see the Resolution section below. 5. Resolution These issues are addressed in the following releases: SPARC Platform * Solaris 8 with patch 117350-61 or later * Solaris 9 with patch 122300-37 or later * Solaris 10 with patch 137137-05 or later * OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_94 or later x86 Platform * Solaris 8 with patch 117351-61 or later * Solaris 9 with patch 122301-37 or later * Solaris 10 with patch 137138-05 or later * OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_94 or later For more information on Security Sun Alerts, see Technical Instruction ID 213557.
