6.2 may Experience Multiple S0C4 ABENDs
Bug ID: 6842201

Product
Sun StorageTek Storage Management Component (SMC)

Date of Workaround Release: 04-Jun-2009

SA Document Body
HIPER - Sun StorageTek Storage Management Component (SMC) may experience
multiple S0C4 ABENDs:

   1. Impact

S0C4 ABENDs with dump "title=SMC COMM MONITOR" may occur from Sun
StorageTek Storage Management Component (SMC) 6.2 roughly every minute
until SMC is recycled. SMC is unable to issue a mount or dismount to
the Sun StorageTek Host Software Component (HSC) for the swapped TO
   drive.

   2. Contributing Factors

This issue can occur in the following releases:

     * Sun StorageTek SMC 6.2 with PTF L1A00Q2

The S0C4 ABENDs will occur when:

      1. A swap is initiated.
      2. A reply of "Y" to message "SMC0110" is done.
      3. The swap TO device has not been previously used by SMC.

Note: This issue only occurs with SMC 6.2.

   3. Symptoms

If a mount or dismount request is received by SMC for the swap TO
device, a S0C4 ABEND with dump "title=SMC ASCOMM WRK" will be taken
and the mount/dismount will not be satisfied.

   4. Workaround

To work around this issue, SMP/E RESTORE SMC 6.2 PTF L1A00Q2

   5. Resolution

A final resolution (SMC 6.2 PTF L1A00QQ) is pending completion.
