'nfs_portmon' Tunable May Allow Unauthorized Network Access

1. Impact

unauthorized network access to share resources, thereby allowing those users
to access (read and write) arbitrary files.

Sun acknowledges with thanks, Anton Lundin for bringing this issue to our
attention

2. Contributing Factors

This issue can occur in the following releases:

SPARC Platform

    * Solaris 10 without patch 139991-03
    * OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_01 through snv_118

x86 Platform

    * Solaris 10 without patch 140109-03
    * OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_01 through snv_118

Notes:

1. Solaris 8 and 9 are not impacted by this issue

2. This issue only occurs on systems that are configured as an NFSv4 server.
To determine if a system is configured as an NFSv4 server, the following
command can be run:

$ rpcinfo -l localhost nfs 4
program vers  tp_family/name/class    address      service
100003  4    inet6/tcp/cots_ord      ::1.8.1       nfs

3. OpenSolaris distributions may include additional bug fixes above and
beyond the build from which it was derived. To determine the base build of
OpenSolaris, the following command can be run:

$ uname -v
snv_116

3. Symptoms

There are no predictable symptoms that would indicate the described issue
has occurred.

4. Workaround

To work around the described issue, the NFS server system may be configured
not to use NFSv4 by setting "NFS_SERVER_VERSMAX=3" in "/etc/default/nfs".
For additional information, please refer to the nfs(4) documentation.

5. Resolution

This issue is addressed in the following releases:

SPARC Platform

    * Solaris 10 with patch 139991-03 or later
    * OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_119 or later

x86 Platform
