The vulnerability could allow remote code execution if a user opened a specially crafted fax cover page file (.cov) using the Windows Fax Cover Page Editor. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could gain the same user rights as the logged-on user. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than users who operate with administrative user rights. Vulnerability Information Fax Cover Page Editor Memory Corruption Vulnerability - CVE-2010-3974 A remote code execution vulnerability in the way that the Windows Fax Cover Page Editor improperly parses specially crafted fax cover pages. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could gain the same user rights as the logged-on user.
