Vulnerability Summary:

Vulnerability exists in EMC Avamar Client for VMware v6.1 that may lead to sensitive information disclosure.

Vulnerability Details:

The Avamar Server root user password is stored in plain text on Avamar VMWare proxy client. This could allow a malicious user with network access to proxy client and Avamar Server to gain privileged access to the Avamar server.


Problem Resolution:

EMC Avamar Client for VMware hotfix 40843 contains the resolution to this issue. 

The hotfix can be applied to proxies running the following software versions:

EMC Avamar Client for VMware 6.1.100-333
EMC Avamar Client for VMware 6.1.100-402

EMC strongly recommends all customers upgrade at the earliest opportunity and change the existing Avamar Server root user passwords.  Refer to EMC Knowledgebase solution http://solutions.emc.com/emcsolutionview.asp?id=esg131813 for more details.
