Overwriting these system and/or user files could result in corruption of the operating system. Vulnerability Details CVE ID: CVE-2012-3329 Description: ASU and BoMC use hardcoded temporary and/or log file names, which are predictable. Any user or malicious entity even without root access could use these predictable file names to create links between the temporary and/or log files and system and/or user files. When ASU and BoMC are used in the Linux operating system, the linking of these files causes the system and/or user files to be overwritten. If the system and/or user files are overwritten, the operating system could become corrupted. A fix has been developed to address this issue. See below for information about locating and installing the fix. The following ASU code levels exhibit this behavior: ASU level 3.62 or earlier and 3.70 through 9.21 The following BoMC code levels exhibit this behavior: BoMC level 2.30 or earlier and 3.00 through 9.21 CVSS: CVSS Base Score: 3.3 CVSS Temporal Score: Undefined CVSS Environmental Score*: See http://xforce.iss.net/xforce/xfdb/78044 for the current score CVSS String: (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:N/A:N) Affected Platforms: The following System x and BladeCenter products that are running Linux operating system and use ASU or BoMC: IBM BladeCenter HC10 (7996) IBM BladeCenter HS12 (1916, 8014, 8028) IBM BladeCenter HS20 (1884, 8843) IBM BladeCenter HS20 (7981 and 1883) IBM BladeCenter HS21 (8853, 1885) IBM BladeCenter HS21 XM (7995,1915) IBM BladeCenter HS22 (7809, 7870, 1936, 1911) IBM BladeCenter HS22V (7871, 1949) IBM BladeCenter HS23 (7875, 1929) IBM BladeCenter HS23E (8038, 8039) IBM BladeCenter HX5 (7872, 1909, 7873, 1910) IBM BladeCenter LS20 (8850) IBM BladeCenter LS21 (7971) IBM BladeCenter LS22 (7901) IBM BladeCenter LS41 (7972) IBM BladeCenter LS42 (7902) IBM eServer 326m (7969, 7992) IBM eServer xSeries MXE 460 (8874) IBM Flex System x220 Compute Node (7906, 2585) IBM Flex System x240 Compute Node (8737, 8738, 7863) IBM Flex System x440 Compute Node (7917) IBM IntelliStation A Pro (6217 and 6224) IBM IntelliStation M Pro (6218, 6225, 6228, 9229, 9230 9236, and 9237) IBM IntelliStation Z Pro (6223, 9228, and 9232) IBM Smart Analytics System (7949) IBM System x iDataPlex dx320 server (6388) IBM System x iDataPlex dx360 M2 server (7321, 6380, 7323) IBM System x iDataPlex dx360 M3 server (6391) IBM System x iDataPlex dx360 M4 server (7912, 7913, 7918, 7919) IBM System x3100 M4 (2582) IBM System x3200 (4362, 4363) IBM System x3200 M2 (4367, 4368) IBM System x3200 M3 (7327, 7328) IBM System x3250 (4364, 4365, and 4366) IBM System x3250 M2 (4190, 4191, 4194, 7657) IBM System x3250 M3 (4251, 4252, 4261) IBM System x3250 M4 (2583) IBM System x3300 M4 (7382) IBM System x3350 (7978, 1913) IBM System x3400 (7973, 7974, 7975,7976) IBM System x3400 M2 (7836, 7837) IBM System x3400 M3 (7378, 7379) IBM System x3455 (7984 and 7986) IBM System x3500 (7977) IBM System x3500 M2 (7839) IBM System x3500 M3 (7380) IBM System x3500 M4 (7383) IBM System x3530 M4 (7160) IBM System x3550 (1913, 7978) IBM System x3550 M2 (7946, 4198) IBM System x3550 M3 (7944, 4254) IBM System x3550 M4 (7914) IBM System x3620 M3 (7376) IBM System x3630 M3 (7377) IBM System x3630 M4 (7158) IBM System x3650 (7979, 1914) IBM System x3650 M2 (4199, 7947) IBM System x3650 M3 (4255, 5454, 7945) IBM System x3650 M4 (7915) IBM System x3690 X5 (7147, 7148, 7149, 7192) IBM System x3750 M4 (8722, 8733) IBM System x3755 M3 (7164) IBM System x3850 M2 (7141, 7144, 7233, 7234) IBM System x3850 X5 ( 7143, 7145, 7146, 7191) IBM System x3950 E (8874, 7364, 8879, 7367) IBM System x3950 M2 (7141, 7233, 7234) IBM System x3950 X5 (7145, 7146) IBM xSeries 206m (8485,8490) IBM xSeries 236 (8841) IBM xSeries 260 (8865) IBM xSeries 306m (8491, 8849 and 1887) IBM xSeries 346 (8840 and 1880) The following Flex System Compute Nodes that are running Linux operating system and use ASU or BoMC: IBM Flex System x220 Compute Node (7906, 2585) IBM Flex System x240 Compute Node (8737, 8738, 7863) IBM Flex System x440 Compute Node (7917) Remediation: IBM strongly recommends the following to address the potential security vulnerability: Apply the fix for ASU by updating to Version 9.30 or later if you are using version 3.70 through 9.21 Version 3.63 or later if you are using level 3.62 or earlier Apply the fix for BoMC by updating to Version 9.30 or later if you are using version 3.00 through 9.21 Version 2.31 or later if you are using version 2.30 or earlier Fix: Update Packages ASU BoMC Workaround: None known, apply fixes Mitigation: None known References: Complete CVSS Guide On-line Calculator V2 X-Force Vulnerability Database CVE-2012-3329 Related Information: IBM Secure Engineering Web Portal IBM Product Security Incident Response Blog Acknowledgement: *The CVSS Environment Score is customer environment specific and will ultimately impact the Overall CVSS Score.
