Security Bulletin: Tivoli Federated Identity Manager - SAML 2.0 Cross Site
Scripting (CVE-2013-0582)

Document information

Tivoli Federated Identity Manager

Software version:
6.2, 6.2.1, 6.2.2

Operating system(s):
AIX, HP-UX, Linux, Solaris, Windows, z/OS

Reference #:

Modified date:

Abstract

A response used in FIM SAML 2.0 protocol could potentially contain unencoded
data provided by an untrusted source. An attacker could potentially use this
to initiate a cross site scripting attack.

Content

VULNERABILITY DETAILS

CVE ID: CVE-2013-0582

DESCRIPTION:

All data sent to FIM by untrusted clients is normally URL encoded to prevent
cross-site scripting attacks. It is possible to construct a URL which, if
requested, could result in a corresponding HTTP response that could contain
unencoded data provided in the URL. If an attacker were to construct this URL
and induce a victim to request it, the attacker could include a script in the
URL that could be executed on the victim's browser.

The attack does not require that the attacker authenticate. The attack does not
require local network access, but specialized knowledge and techniques are
required. An exploit will not impact accessibility of system resources, but
both the confidentiality of information and the integrity of transmitted data
could be compromised.
