Published Date: July 9, 2013

Version: 1.0

General Information

Executive Summary

This security update resolves a privately reported vulnerability in Microsoft
Windows, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Lync, and Microsoft Visual Studio. The
vulnerability could allow remote code execution if a user views shared content
that embeds TrueType font files.

This security update is rated Critical for all supported releases of Microsoft
Windows and affected editions of Microsoft Lync 2010 and Microsoft Lync 2013.
The security update is rated Important for affected releases of Microsoft
Office and supported editions of Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003. For more
information, see the subsection, Affected and Non-Affected Software, in this
section.

The security update addresses the vulnerability by correcting the way Microsoft
Windows and affected software handle specially crafted TrueType Font (TTF)
files.

Vulnerability Information

TrueType Font Parsing Vulnerability - CVE-2013-3129

A remote code execution vulnerability exists in the way that affected Windows
components and other affected software handle specially crafted TrueType font
files. The vulnerability could allow remote code execution if a user views
shared content that embeds TrueType font files. An attacker who successfully
exploited this vulnerability could take complete control of an affected system.
An attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or
create new accounts with full administrative rights.
