Affected Products and Versions

IBM Lotus Protector for Mail Security 2.8.0.0

IBM Lotus Protector for Mail Security 2.8.1.0

Remediation/Fixes

IBM Lotus Protector for Mail Security 2.8.0.0

* Install update to 2.8.1.0 then follow 2.8.1.0 instructions

IBM Lotus Protector for Mail Security 2.8.1.0

* Install latest System Packages. If you have enabled automatic updates your
system will install the fix automatically.

For manual installation go to Updates - Updates & Licensing - System Packages
and start the update.

To check if the fix has been installed on your system follow the below steps:

1. SSH to the appliance (login as 'root')

2. rpm -qa | grep isslmi

3. Check that the revision number (isslmi-2.8.1-XXXXX) is equal or higher than
22905.

Workarounds and Mitigations

The attack requires access to the management interface which is separated from
the public-facing interfaces for end users and mail exchange. An attacker
would need to gain access to a network or an individual that has access to the
management interface prior to these attacks.

All attacks require prior admin authentication.

An attacker must therefore either obtain these credentials or use social
engineering to trick a user with admin privileges to click on a crafted link.
