Vulnerability Details CVE ID: CVE-2014-0936 DESCRIPTION: IBM Security AppScan Source contains an escalation privilege vulnerability that can be used by users to escalate their privileges and obtain access to confidential data. The attack does not require authentication, but a high degree of specialized knowledge and techniques and adjacent network access are required. An exploit could impact the confidentiality of information, the integrity of data and the availability of the system. CVSS: CVSS Base Score: 5.1 CVSS Temporal Score: See http://xforce.iss.net/xforce/xfdb/92317 for the current score CVSS Environmental Score*: Undefined CVSS Vector: (AV:A/AC:H/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Affected Products and Versions IBM Security AppScan Source 9.0 IBM Security AppScan Source 8.8 IBM Security AppScan Source 8.7 IBM Security AppScan Source 8.6 IBM Security AppScan Source 8.5 IBM Security AppScan Source 8.0 Remediation/Fixes None Workarounds and Mitigations By default, AppScan Source clients allow publishing of assessments to either the backend solidDB or Oracle database (both of which are insecure by default), or to an IBM Security AppScan Enterprise server (secure by default). The publishing to the backend solidDB or Oracle database is controlled via a "publish assessment" permission. Publishing to the AppScan Enterprise server is controlled via a "save assessment" permission. To publish in a secure manner there are a few avenues which can be deployed today: Remove the "publish assessment" permission from all users including the default user if they have it. This will prevent any clear text transmission to the backend DB of the assessment artifact. Use an internal secure FTP server to upload assessment files for distribution outside of the AppScan Source client. Use an AppScan Enterprise Server for publishing assessment purposes. Current releases (post AppScan Source 8.7) already disable this permission by default. A user who wishes to still use the "publish assessment" permission can still do so by adding it to the users whom they wish to be able to perform the publish action. To remove the publish assessments permission: 1. Open the user management applet 2. Open each user and remove the "Publish Assessment" permission. 3. Be sure the default user also has this permission removed. New users added from ASE will get all of the permissions specified in this template References Complete CVSS Guide On-line Calculator V2 CVE-2014-0936 http://xforce.iss.net/xforce/xfdb/92317 Related information IBM Secure Engineering Web Portal IBM Product Security Incident Response Blog *The CVSS Environment Score is customer environment specific and will ultimately impact the Overall CVSS Score.
