Summary: Updated thermostat1-httpcomponents-client packages that fix two security issues are now available for Red Hat Software Collections 1. Red Hat Product Security has rated this update as having Important security impact. Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) base scores, which give detailed severity ratings, are available for each vulnerability from the CVE links in the References section. 2. Relevant releases/architectures: Red Hat Software Collections 1 for Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server (v. 6) - noarch Red Hat Software Collections 1 for Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server EUS (v. 6.4) - noarch Red Hat Software Collections 1 for Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstation (v. 6) - noarch 3. Description: Thermostat is a monitoring and instrumentation tool for the OpenJDK HotSpot Java Virtual Machine (JVM) with support for monitoring multiple JVM instances. The httpcomponents-client package provides an HTTP agent implementation that is used by Thermostat to visualize collected data in an HTTP-aware client application. It was found that the fix for CVE-2012-5783 was incomplete: the code added to check that the server hostname matches the domain name in a subject's Common Name (CN) field in X.509 certificates was flawed. A man-in-the-middle attacker could use this flaw to spoof an SSL server using a specially crafted X.509 certificate.
