SOL15566: Kerberos vulnerability CVE-2014-4345

Security Advisory

Original Publication Date: 09/05/2014

Description

Off-by-one error in the krb5_encode_krbsecretkey function in
plugins/kdb/ldap/libkdb_ldap/ldap_principal2.c in the LDAP KDB module in
kadmind in MIT Kerberos 5 (aka krb5) 1.6.x through 1.11.x before 1.11.6 and
1.12.x before 1.12.2 allows remote authenticated users to cause a denial of
service (buffer overflow) or possibly execute arbitrary code via a series of
"cpw -keepold" commands. (CVE-2014-4345)

Impact

An attacker may be able to cause a denial-of-service (DoS) to an application
that uses Kerberos authentication, or execute malicious code through exploited
traffic.

Status

F5 Product Development has assigned ID 476473 (BIG-IP), ID 476873 (BIG-IQ), ID
476876 (Enterprise Manager) and ID 476378 (ARX) to this vulnerability, and has
evaluated the currently supported releases for potential vulnerability.

To determine if your release is known to be vulnerable, the components or
features that are affected by the vulnerability, and for information about
releases or hotfixes that address the vulnerability, refer to the following
table:

* F5 Product Development has determined that these BIG-IP, BIG-IQ and
Enterprise Manager versions use a vulnerable version of kadmind utility.
However, the kadmind utility is not used by default on these BIG-IP, BIG-IQ
and Enterprise Manager systems. These products are only vulnerable if the
kadmind utility is manually configured and started.

Recommended action

If the previous table lists a version in the Versions known to be not
vulnerable column, you can eliminate this vulnerability by upgrading to the
listed version. If the table does not list any version in the column, then no
upgrade candidate currently exists.
