Security Bulletin

Summary

Multiple security vulnerabilities exist in the IBM Java Runtime Environment
that is shipped in TPF Toolkit.

Vulnerability Details

CVE-ID: CVE-2014-3065
DESCRIPTION: IBM Java SDK contains a vulnerability in which the default
configuration for the shared classes feature potentially allows arbitrary
code to be injected into the shared classes cache. This code subsequently
can be executed by other local users.
CVSS Base Score: 6
CVSS Temporal Score: See http://xforce.iss.net/xforce/xfdb/93629 for the
current score
CVSS Environmental Score*: Undefined
CVSS Vector: (AV:L/AC:H/Au:S/C:C/I:C/A:C)

CVE-ID: CVE-2014-3566

DESCRIPTION: SSLv3 is vulnerable to Padding Oracle On Downgraded Legacy
Encryption (POODLE) attacks. A man-in-the-middle attack could allow a
remote user to get protected information.
CVSS Base Score: 4.3
CVSS Temporal Score: See http://xforce.iss.net/xforce/xfdb/97013 for the
current score
CVSS Environmental Score*: Undefined
CVSS Vector: (AV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:N/A:N

CVEID: CVE-2014-6457

DESCRIPTION: An unspecified vulnerability related to the JSSE component
has partial confidentiality impact, partial integrity impact, and no
availability impact.
CVSS Base Score: 4
CVSS Temporal Score: See http://xforce.iss.net/xforce/xfdb/97148 for the
current score
CVSS Environmental Score*: Undefined
CVSS Vector: (AV:N/AC:H/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:N)

CVEID: CVE-2014-6512

DESCRIPTION: An unspecified vulnerability related to the Libraries component
has no confidentiality impact, partial integrity impact, and no availability
impact.
CVSS Base Score: 4.3
CVSS Temporal Score: See http://xforce.iss.net/xforce/xfdb/97147 for the
current score
CVSS Environmental Score*: Undefined
CVSS Vector: (AV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:N/I:P/A:N)

Affected Products and Versions

TPF Toolkit 4.2.x

Remediation/Fixes

Product VRMF	APAR	Remediation/First Fix
TPF Toolkit	4.2.x	JR51692 Install IBM Installation Manager 1.8, which
does not use the SSLv3 protocol. IBM
Installation Manager 1.8 is required on any
machine that you install a TPF Toolkit
interim fix on. Download IBM Installation
				Manager 1.8 from
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg24037640

Apply Interim Fix 4.2.2 by using IBM
				Installation Manager.

Update the Java installation on your z/OS or
Linux on System z (or both) systems that the
TPF Toolkit connects to. Download the latest
				version of Java from
http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/

Workarounds and Mitigations

CVE-2014-3065: Instead of using the default cache directory, you can specify
a cache directory that has limited permissions by using the cacheDir and
cacheDirPerm options. If only a particular user has write access to the
directory, no other users can modify the shared cache. To use a different
cache directory, update the server file in the dstore host installation
directory (for example, bin/server.linux on Linux on System z) to replace
the –Xshareclasses parameter statement as follows, where path is the
shared directory path of the new shared cache with limited permission:

- -Xshareclasses:cacheDir=/path,cacheDirPerm=0700,name=RSE%g,groupAccess,nonfatal

There is no known work around or mitigation for the other security issues;
apply the fixes specified in the Remediation/Fixes section.
