Vulnerability Details

CVEID: CVE-2014-8920

DESCRIPTION: IBM i Access for Windows Data Transfer Program is vulnerable to a
buffer overflow, caused by improper bounds checking. A local attacker could 
overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system as the current 
user.

Affected Products and Versions

Releases V5R4, 6.1 and 7.1 of IBM i Access for Windows are affected.

Remediation/Fixes

The issue can be fixed by applying a PTF to IBM i Access for Windows.

The IBM i Access for Windows, 5770-XE1, product will be fixed via the 7.1 
service release which can be used to access all supported releases of the IBM
i server.

The interim fix, prior to the service release, can be obtained via this link:

Important note: IBM recommends that all users running unsupported versions of
