Security Bulletin

Summary

libpng is vulnerable to a heap-based buffer overflow, caused by improper
bounds checking when decompressing the IDAT_data. A local attacker could
overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system or cause a denial
of service. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability using IDAT data
with a large width to overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the
system or cause a denial of service.

Vulnerability Details

CVEID:CVE-2014-9495

DESCRIPTION:

libpng is vulnerable to a heap-based buffer overflow, caused by improper
bounds checking by the png_combine_row function when decompressing the
IDAT_data. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability using a "very
wide interlaced" PNG image to overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on
the system or cause a denial of service.
