Version Summary: Cisco Wireless LAN Controller contains a vulnerability that
could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to cause a denial of service
condition. Updates are available.

Description

A vulnerability in the web administration interface of Cisco Wireless LAN
Controllers (WLC) could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to cause a
denial of service (DoS) condition on an affected device.

The vulnerability is due to improper validation of certain parameters
submitted as part of form requests prior to processing. An attacker could
exploit this vulnerability by submitting a crafted request to a targeted
device. If successful, the attacker could cause the device to crash, resulting
in a DoS condition.

Cisco has confirmed the vulnerability and released software updates.

Warning Indicators

At the time this alert was first published, Cisco WLC Software versions prior
to 7.0.241, 7.4.122, or 7.6.120 were vulnerable.

IntelliShield Analysis

To exploit this vulnerability, an attacker must authenticate to the targeted
device. This access requirement decreases the likelihood of a successful
exploit.

Cisco indicates through the CVSS score that functional exploit code exists;
however, the code is not known to be publicly available.

Vendor Announcements

Cisco has released bug IDs CSCum65159 and CSCum65252 for registered users,
which contain additional details and an up-to-date list of affected product
versions.

Impact

An authenticated, remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to cause an
affected device to crash, resulting in a DoS condition.

Technical Information

The vulnerability is due to improper validation of certain parameters
submitted as part of form requests prior to processing by an affected device.

An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by submitting a crafted request
to a targeted device. If successful, the attacker could cause the device to
crash, resulting in a DoS condition.

Safeguards

Administrators are advised to apply the appropriate updates.

Administrators are advised to allow only trusted users to have network access.
