Version Summary: Cisco Headend System Releases contain a vulnerability that 
could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a denial of service 
condition. Updates are not available.

Description

A vulnerability in Cisco Headend System Releases could allow an 
unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a denial of service (DoS) condition.

The vulnerability is due to the software's inability to recover memory after 
certain usage situations. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by 
exploiting memory usage, resulting in a DoS condition.

Cisco has confirmed the vulnerability; however, software updates are not 
available.

internal networks to send crafted content to the affected device. This access

Impact

An unauthenticated, remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to 
consume excessive amounts of memory resources, resulting in a DoS condition.

The vulnerability is due to improper handling of memory by the affected 
software.

An unauthenticated, remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by 
sending crafted content to a targeted device. An exploit could allow the 
attacker to consume excessive amounts of memory resources, resulting in a DoS
condition.

Safeguards

Administrators are advised to contact the vendor regarding future updates and
releases.

Administrators are advised to allow only trusted users to have network access.

Administrators may consider using IP-based access control lists (ACLs) to 
allow only trusted systems to access the affected systems.

Administrators are advised to monitor affected systems.
