Version Summary: Cisco IP Communicator contains a vulnerability that could 
allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a denial of service 
condition. Updates are available.

Description

A vulnerability in the web interface of Cisco IP Communicator could allow an 
unauthenticated, remote attacker to take the web service offline.

The vulnerability is due to access of a specific HTTP URL. An attacker could 
exploit this vulnerability by sending an HTTP GET request to the specific URL.
A successful exploit could allow the attacker to take the web service offline,
resulting in a denial of service (DoS) condition.

Cisco has confirmed the vulnerability and released software updates.

Warning Indicators

At the time this alert was first published, Cisco IP Communicator Release 
8.6(4) was vulnerable. Later releases of Cisco IP Communicator may also be 
vulnerable.

IntelliShield Analysis

To exploit this vulnerability, an attacker may need to gather additional 
information about the targeted device, such as whether the device has web 
access enabled. Web access must be enabled for a successful exploit.

Cisco indicates through the CVSS score that functional exploit code exists; 
however, the code is not known to be publicly available.

Vendor Announcements

Cisco has released bug ID CSCuu37656 for registered users, which contains 
additional details and an up-to-date list of affected product versions.

Impact

An unauthenticated, remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to cause
the web service to go offline and become unavailable, resulting in a DoS 
condition.

Technical Information

The vulnerability is due to improper access of a specific HTTP URL associated
with an affected device.

An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending an HTTP GET request to
the specific URL. An exploit could allow the attacker to take the web service
on an affected device offline, resulting in a DoS condition.

Administrators are advised to apply the appropriate updates.

Administrators are advised to allow only trusted users to have network access.

Administrators are advised to monitor affected systems.
