Last Published: 2015 August 13 21:13 GMT

Port: Not available

CVE: CVE-2015-4315

Urgency: Unlikely Use

Credibility: Confirmed

Severity: Mild Damage

CVSS Base: 5.5

CVSS Version 2.0

CVSS Temporal: 5.2

Version Summary: Cisco TelePresence Video Communication Server Expressway
contains a vulnerability that could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to
gain access to sensitive information or cause a denial of service condition on
a targeted device. Updates are not available.

Description

A vulnerability in the Call Policy Configuration page of the Cisco
TelePresence Video Communication Server (VCS) Expressway could allow an
authenticated, remote attacker to cause a denial of service (DoS) condition or
read arbitrary files on an affected system.

The vulnerability is due to insufficient validation of declared document type
definitions (DTD) stored externally. An attacker could exploit this
vulnerability by supplying a specially crafted XML file to the targeted
system. An exploit could allow the attacker to launch a denial of service
attack or read arbitrary files.

Cisco has confirmed the vulnerability; however, software updates are not
available.

Warning Indicators

At the time this alert was first published, Cisco TelePresence VCS Expressway
version X8.5.3 was vulnerable. Later releases of Cisco TelePresence VCS
Expressway may also be vulnerable.

IntelliShield Analysis

To exploit this vulnerability, an attacker must authenticate to the targeted
device. This access requirement reduces the likelihood of a successful
exploit.

Cisco indicates through the CVSS score that functional exploit code exists;
however, the code is not known to be publicly available.

Vendor Announcements

Cisco has released bug ID CSCuv31853 for registered users, which contains
additional details and an up-to-date list of affected product versions.

Impact

An authenticated, remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to cause a
DoS condition or read arbitrary files on an affected system.

Technical Information

The vulnerability is due to insufficient validation of a declared DTD stored
externally on an affected system.

An authenticated, remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by
supplying a specially crafted XML file to the targeted system. An exploit
could allow the attacker to cause a DoS condition or read arbitrary files on
the system.
