The vulnerability could allow elevation of privilege if an attacker logs on to a system and runs a specially crafted application. This security update is rated Important for all supported editions of Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2. For more information, see the Affected Software section. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could gain elevated privileges on a targeted system. To exploit the vulnerability, an attacker would first have to log on to the system. The attacker could then run a specially crafted application designed to elevate privileges. The security update corrects how NDIS validates buffer length. Microsoft received information about this vulnerability through coordinated vulnerability disclosure. At the time this security bulletin was originally issued, Microsoft was unaware of any attack attempting to exploit this vulnerability. - --------------------------END INCLUDED TEXT-------------------- You have received this e-mail bulletin as a result of your organisation's registration with AusCERT.
