Summary:  
EMC Avamar Data Store (ADS) and Avamar Virtual Edition (AVE) versions 7.3 and older contain a vulnerability that may expose the Avamar servers to potentially be compromised by malicious users.

Details:

The privilege escalation vulnerability may allow a malicious non-privileged user to execute PostgreSQL commands and escalate privileges to OS admin user. Note that EMC does not recommend nor support the creation of additional non-privileged users on the Avamar server.


Resolution:  
The following EMC Avamar release contains a resolution to this vulnerability

After applying Hotfix 263301, you must also follow the instructions documented in KB article https://support.emc.com/kb/486276. 

EMC recommends all customers upgrade at the earliest opportunity.
