(CVE-2017-6165) Impact An attacker with access to the logged password may be able to cause disruption of service or have other impacts on the HSM partition. Security Advisory Status F5 Product Development has assigned ID 580026 (BIG-IP) to this vulnerability, and has evaluated the currently supported releases for potential vulnerability. In addition to upgrading to a fixed version, you should also perform the mitigation steps listed in the following Security Advisory Recommended Actions section. Security Advisory Recommended Actions If you are running a version listed in the Versions known to be vulnerable column, you can eliminate this vulnerability by upgrading to a version listed in the Versions known to be not vulnerable column. If the table lists only an older version than what you are currently running, or does not list a non-vulnerable version, then no upgrade candidate currently exists. To mitigate this vulnerability, you can remove any affected messages from the / var/log/ltm log file that appear similar to the following examples: /bin/sh /usr/bin/safenet-sync.sh -p <PASSWORD> ==> /usr/bin/bigstart restart pkcs11d /bin/sh /usr/bin/safenet-sync.sh -p <PASSWORD> ==> /usr/bin/bigstart restart tmm /bin/sh /usr/bin/safenet-sync.sh -p <PASSWORD> ==> /usr/bin/bigstart restart pkcs11d /bin/sh /usr/bin/safenet-sync.sh -p <PASSWORD> ==> /usr/bin/bigstart restart tmm In addition to the current /var/log/ltm file, you should also delete or scrub any ltm log files that have been rotated (ltm.1.gz, ltm.2.gz,etc.), and any other files that may contain affected ltm log files, such as qkview files, or log files that have been backed up to an alternate location. Important: If you believe the password may have been compromised, you can change the password on the Safenet HSM device and in the BIG-IP configuration. To do so refer to K16350062: Changing the SafeNet HSM partition password.
