Revision History: April 4 2018: Updates available in original bulletin K90803619 March 26 2018: Updates available in original bulletin K54610514 November 2 2017: Initial Release - --------------------------BEGIN INCLUDED TEXT-------------------- K54610514:Linux kernel vulnerability CVE-2016-10088 Security Advisory Original Publication Date: 28 Jan, 2017 Latest Publication Date: 24 Mar, 2018 Security Advisory Description The sg implementation in the Linux kernel through 4.9 does not properly restrict write operations in situations where the KERNEL_DS option is set, which allows local users to read or write to arbitrary kernel memory locations or cause a denial of service (use-after-free) by leveraging access to a /dev/sg device, related to block/bsg.c and drivers/scsi/sg.c. NOTE: this vulnerability exists because of an incomplete fix for CVE-2016-9576. (CVE-2016-10088) Impact This vulnerability may allow locally authenticated users to read or write to arbitrary kernel memory locations or cause a denial of service (DoS). Note: The exploit requires local shell access and can provide a user with root access to the system. On BIG-IP systems, shell access includes root privileges, making this exploit unnecessary. Security Advisory Status F5 Product Development has assigned IDs 640766 and 640768 (BIG-IP) and IDs 640766 and 640768 (BIG-IQ, Enterprise Manager, and iWorkflow) to this vulnerability. Additionally, BIG-IP iHealth may list Heuristic H54610514 on the Diagnostics > Identified > Low screen. To determine if your release is known to be vulnerable, the components or features that are affected by the vulnerability, and for information about releases or hotfixes that address the vulnerability, refer to the following table. +---------------+----------------+-----------------+----------+----------------+ | |Versions known |Versions known to| |Vulnerable | |Product |to be vulnerable|be not vulnerable|Severity |component or | | | | | |feature | +---------------+----------------+-----------------+----------+----------------+ | |13.0.0 -
