Accepting these different behaviors represented a security concern when httpd participates in any chain of proxies or interacts with back-end application servers, either through mod_proxy or using conventional CGI mechanisms, and may result in request smuggling, response splitting and cache pollution. ( CVE-2016-8743) Impact An attacker may be able to perform HTTP request smuggling through specially crafted HTTP requests. For more information about HTTP request smuggling, refer to Section 9.5 Request Smuggling of Internet Engineering Task Force (RFC 7230). Note: This link takes you to a resource outside of AskF5. The third party could remove the document without our knowledge. Security Advisory Status F5 Product Development has assigned ID 641101 (BIG-IP), ID 641323 (Enterprise Manager), and ID 431234 (ARX) to this vulnerability. Additionally, BIG-IP iHealth may list Heuristic H00373024 on the Diagnostics > Identified > Low screen. However, F5 identifies the vulnerability status as Not vulnerable because the attacker cannot exploit the code in default, standard, or recommended configurations. Security Advisory Recommended Actions If you are running a version listed in the Versions known to be vulnerable column, you can eliminate this vulnerability by upgrading to a version listed in the Versions known to be not vulnerable column. If the table lists only an older version than what you are currently running, or does not list a non-vulnerable version, then no upgrade candidate currently exists. Mitigation BIG-IP and Enterprise Manager To mitigate this vulnerability, you should limit access to the Configuration utility to use only secure networks. ARX To mitigate this vulnerability, you should limit access to the ARX GUI to use only secure networks. Additionally, you should avoid enabling the API functionality.
