Security Advisory Description

The mx4200_send function in the legacy MX4200 refclock in NTP before 4.2.8p10
and 4.3.x before 4.3.94 does not properly handle the return value of the
snprintf function, which allows local users to execute arbitrary code via
unspecified vectors, which trigger an out-of-bounds memory write. (
CVE-2017-6451)

Impact

This vulnerability allows local users to execute arbitrary code via
unspecified vectors, which triggers an out-of-bounds memory write.

Security Advisory Recommended Actions

If you are running a version listed in the Versions known to be vulnerable
column, you can eliminate this vulnerability by upgrading to a version listed
in the Versions known to be not vulnerable column. If the table lists only an
older version than what you are currently running, or does not list a
non-vulnerable version, then no upgrade candidate currently exists.

To determine the necessary upgrade path for your BIG-IQ system, you should
understand the BIG-IQ product offering name changes. For more information,
refer to K21232150: Considerations for upgrading BIG-IQ or F5 iWorkflow
systems.

Mitigation

To mitigate this vulnerability, avoid enabling the MX4200 refclock.
