K55001100: glibc vulnerability CVE-2015-5180

Security Advisory

Original Publication Date: Mar 14, 2017
Updated Date: Dec 14, 2018

Security Advisory Description

res_query in libresolv in glibc before 2.25 allows remote attackers to cause a
denial of service (NULL pointer dereference and process crash). (CVE-2015-5180)

Impact

For this vulnerability, an attacker must have local access to the system and
know how to make the glibc function trigger an exploit. The attacker may be
able to dereference a NULL pointer and cause an application to restart.

Security Advisory Status

F5 Product Development has assigned ID 648227 (BIG-IP), ID 648331 (BIG-IQ and
F5 iWorkflow), and CPF-23511, CPF-23512, and CPF-23513 (Traffix SDC) to this
vulnerability. Additionally, BIG-IP iHealth may list Heuristic H55001100 on the
Diagnostics > Identified > Low screen.
