Introduction A remote escalation of privilege vulnerability in Harbor, a Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) Open Source Project, was disclosed. Patches and workarounds are available to remediate or workaround this vulnerability in affected VMware products. 3. Remote escalation of privilege vulnerability in Harbor (CVE-2019-16097) Description: A vulnerability in the POST /api/users API of Harbor may allow for a remote escalation of privilege. VMware has evaluated the severity of this issue to be in the Critical severity range with a maximum CVSSv3 base score of 9.8. Known Attack Vectors: A malicious actor with network access to a Harbor POST /api/users API could self-register a new account with administrative privileges. Successful exploitation of this issue may lead to a complete compromise of the Harbor deployment. Resolution: To remediate CVE-2019-16097, apply the patches listed in the 'Fixed Version' column of the 'Resolution Matrix' found below. Workarounds: VMware products can workaround CVE-2019-16097 by disabling self-registration in Harbor. Please see the 'Workarounds' column of the 'Resolution Matrix' found below.
