USN-5224-2: Ghostscript vulnerabilities
13 January 2022

Several security issues were fixed in Ghostscript.
Releases

  o Ubuntu 16.04 ESM

Packages

o ghostscript - PostScript and PDF interpreter

Details

USN-5224-1 fixed several vulnerabilities in Ghostscript. This update provides
the corresponding update for Ubuntu 16.04 ESM.

Original advisory details:

It was discovered that Ghostscript incorrectly handled certain PostScript
files. If a user or automated system were tricked into processing a
specially crafted file, a remote attacker could possibly use this issue to
cause Ghostscript to crash, resulting in a denial of service, or possibly
execute arbitrary code.

Update instructions

The problem can be corrected by updating your system to the following package
versions:

Ubuntu 16.04

  o ghostscript - 9.26~dfsg+0-0ubuntu0.16.04.14+esm1
Available with UA Infra or UA Desktop
  o libgs9 - 9.26~dfsg+0-0ubuntu0.16.04.14+esm1
Available with UA Infra or UA Desktop

In general, a standard system update will make all the necessary changes.
