OVERVIEW

        Windows XP Service Pack 2 reached end-of-life on July 13 2010. [1]
This version of Windows will no longer receive support or security
        updates.

IMPACT

Users of Windows XP SP2 will no longer receive security updates.
Should new vulnerabilities arise, users should not expect software
        fixes.

MITIGATION

While individual future vulnerabilities may have mitigation
strategies apart from patching, the only way to ensure the
continuing availability of security patches is to upgrade a current
        version of Windows.

Windows XP Service Pack 3 upgrade instructions are available from
        the Microsoft website. [2]

Windows 7 is the most recent version of Windows. Microsoft have an
instructional guide to upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7 on
        their website. [3]
