Impact Solaris 10 systems utilizing 4-way mirrors and with patch 124256-02 or later installed (SPARC) or with 126257-03 or later installed (x86) may experience an application core dump when one of the Solaris Volume Manager (SVM) sub-mirrors is detached from a 4-way mirror. This condition leaves SVM replicas corrupted, and the use of any subsequent SVM commands (meta commands) may also cause an application to core dump. 2. Contributing Factors This issue can occur in the following releases: SPARC Platform * Solaris 10 with patch 124256-02 through 124256-06 or with patch 127127-09 through 127127-11 x86 Platform * Solaris 10 with patch 126257-03 through 126257-07 or with patch 127719-03 through 127719-05 or with patch 127128-04 through 127128-11 Notes: 1. Solaris 8 and 9 are not impacted by this issue. 2. Only systems utilizing SVM 4-way mirrors are impacted by this issue. Systems with only 2 or 3 mirrors are not impacted by this issue. 3. Symptoms An assertion failure from metadetach(1M) is followed by a core dump, as in the following example: # metadetach d10 d100 d10: submirror d100 is detached ... metadetach: Abort Abort (core dumped) Subsequent SVM commands such as metastat(1M) may also cause a core dump after this point. 4. Workaround Binary relief is available through normal support channels for the following releases: SPARC Platform * Solaris 10 x86 Platform * Solaris 10 Note: If this issue has already occurred and the system has corrupted replicas, the replicas will need to be recreated. Removing the affected patches listed in section 2 or installing binary relief will not remedy the replica corruption. To remove/recreate the corrupted replicas, follow the steps below: 1. Take appropriate data backups before destroying replicas. 2. Destroy the SVM replicas. 3. Backout the affected patches listed in section 2 above or install the binary relief. 4. Reboot the system, so that changes to the binary (md_mirror) take effect. 5. Recreate SVM replicas. Notes: 1. For systems using 4 way mirrors which have not yet experienced this issue, it is advised to back out the affected patches listed in section 2 or install the binary relief to avoid being impacted. 2. Systems installed with Solaris 10 5/08 will not allow a back out of the affected patches listed in section 2, as they are pre-installed in the initial system installation/upgrade. 5.
