Impact Installation of the mpt(7D) HBA driver patch 125081-10 through 125081-16 (SPARC) or patch 125082-09 through 125082-16 (x86) or kernel patch 127127-11 (SPARC) or 127128-11 (x86) (or installation of the latest Solaris 10 patch cluster that contains this patch) may cause lost connections to tape devices, preventing backup operations with NetBackup. 2. Contributing Factors This issue can occur in the following releases: SPARC Platform * Solaris 10 with patch 125081-09 through 125081-16 or with kernel patch 127127-11 and without patch 138075-02 x86 Platfom: * Solaris 10 with patch 125082-09 through 125082-16 or with kernel patch 127128-11 and without patch 138076-02 Notes: 1. To determine the current mpt(7D) driver version on the system, the following command can be run: % modinfo | grep mpt 22 1263020 2bbd0 213 1 mpt (MPT HBA Driver v1.34) 3. Symptoms After installation of the patch and system reboot, the NetBackup '/usr/openv/volmgr/bin/sgscan' command no longer sees its tape devices, and the robot/tape drives in NetBackup are down, as in the following example: Before patch application/reboot: # /usr/openv/volmgr/bin/sgscan WARNING: detected StorEdge Network Foundation connected devices not in SG configuration file: Device World Wide Port Name 2100002037e3df92 Device World Wide Port Name 21000020372a079e Device World Wide Port Name 210100e08b307c17 See /usr/openv/volmgr/MediaMgr_DeviceConfig_Guide.txt chapter "Special configuration for "Sun StorEdge Network Foundation" HBA/Driver" for information on how to use sg.build and sg.install to configure these devices /dev/sg/c0t6l0: Cdrom: "TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-M1401" /dev/sg/c2t0l0: Changer: "ATL 1500" /dev/sg/c2t1l0: Tape (/dev/rmt/0): "HP Ultrium 1-SCSI" /dev/sg/c2t2l0: Tape (/dev/rmt/3): "HP Ultrium 1-SCSI" After patch is applied/reboot: # /usr/openv/volmgr/bin/sgscan WARNING: detected StorEdge Network Foundation connected devices not in SG configuration file: Device World Wide Port Name 2100002037e3df92 Device World Wide Port Name 21000020372a079e Device World Wide Port Name 210100e08b307c17 See /usr/openv/volmgr/MediaMgr_DeviceConfig_Guide.txt chapter "Special configuration for "Sun StorEdge Network Foundation" HBA/Driver" for information on how to use sg.build and sg.install to configure these devices /dev/sg/c0t6l0: Cdrom: "TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-M1401" 4. Workaround Do not install mpt(7D) patch 125081-10 through 125081-16 or kernel patch 127127-11 (SPARC) or patch 125082-09 through 125082-16 or kernel patch 127128-11 (x86). Do not upgrade to Solaris 10 Update 5. Remain on, or back down to, patch 125081-08 (SPARC) or 125082-16 (x86). 5.
