   SA Document Body
   An Issue in the Solaris LDAP Daemon May Cause the System to Hang

   1. Impact
   An issue in the Solaris 10 LDAP daemon (ldap_cachemgr(1M)) may, under
   certain conditions, hang this daemon and possibly hang the entire
   system.

   2. Contributing Factors
   This issue can occur in the following releases:
   SPARC Platform:
     * Solaris 8 without patch 108993-63
     * Solaris 9 without patch 112960-41
     * Solaris 10 without patch 124987-01
     * Solaris 10 with patch 127111-07 or later and without patch
       140144-01
     * OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_01 through snv_11

   x86 Platform:
     * Solaris 8 without patch 108994-63
     * Solaris 9 without patch 114242-28
     * Solaris 10 without patch 120037-10
     * Solaris 10 with patch 127954-04 or later and without patch
       140145-01
     * OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_01 through snv_11

   Notes:
   1. This issue was initially fixed using BugID 4768758 and resulted in
   a set of patches for Solaris 8,9 and 10. But a subsequent change in
   this area caused this fix for 4768758 to be eliminated in Solaris 10.
   BugID 6774895 is used to fix this issue a second time in Solaris 10.
   OpenSolaris received the fix for this issue via BugID 6223254.
   2. This issue only occurs if the ldap_cachemgr(1M) process is running.
   The following commands may be run to check if the ldap_cachemgr(1M)
   process is running:
   Solaris 10 and OpenSolaris only:
   $ svcs  svc:/network/ldap/client:default

   For all other Solaris releases:
   $ /usr/bin/pgrep ldap_cachemgr

   3. Symptoms
   Should the described issue occur, users are unable to log in and
   Solaris commands may be unresponsive.
   The following command (executed as root) may be used to confirm the
   issue has occurred:
   # /usr/bin/pstack `pgrep ldap_cachemgr`

   Output from the above command showing many threads similar to the
   following is an indication this issue has occurred:

   4. Workaround
   There is no workaround for this issue. Please see the Resolution
   section below.

   5. Resolution
   This issue is addressed in the following releases:
   SPARC Platform:
     * Solaris 8 with patch 108993-63 or later
     * Solaris 9 with patch 112960-41 or later
     * Solaris 10 with patch 140144-01 or later
     * OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_12 or later

   x86 Platform:
     * Solaris 8 with patch 108994-63 or later
     * Solaris 9 with patch 114242-28 or later
     * Solaris 10 with patch 140145-01 or later
