   Solution Type: Sun Alert

   Solution 247406 : Security Vulnerability with IKE Packet Handling
   in Solaris libike Library may Lead to a Crash of in.iked(1M)

   Bug ID: 6750947

   Product
   Solaris 9 Operating System
   Solaris 10 Operating System
   OpenSolaris

   Date of Resolved Release: 22-Jan-2009

   SA Document Body

   A security vulnerability in IKE packet handling in the libike library:

   1. Impact

   A security vulnerability in IKE packet handling in the libike library
   shipped with Solaris may allow a remote unprivileged user to crash the
   in.iked(1M) daemon, which is a type of Denial of Service (DoS).

   2. Contributing Factors

   This issue can occur in the following releases:
   SPARC Platform
     * Solaris 9 without patch 113451-15
     * Solaris 10 without patch 140196-01
     * Opensolaris based upon build snv_01 through snv_99

   x86 Platform
     * Solaris 9 without patch 114435-14
     * Solaris 10 without patch 140414-01
     * Opensolaris based upon build snv_01 through snv_99

   Note 1: Solaris 8 is not impacted by this issue.

   Note 2: OpenSolaris distributions may include additional bug fixes
   above and beyond the build from which it was derived.

   To determine the base build of OpenSolaris, the following command can
   be used:
    $ uname -v
    snv_86

   Note 3: The described issue only affects systems running the IKE
   daemon in.iked(1M).

   The in.iked(1M) daemon is configured to run on a system if the file
   "/etc/inet/ike/config" is present. To determine if IKE services are
   configured on the system, the following command can be run:
    $ ls /etc/inet/ike/config
    /etc/inet/ike/config: No such file or directory

   By default, the in.iked(1M) service is disabled on Solaris systems.
   3. Symptoms
   If the described issue has been exploited, the IKE daemon may no
   longer be running on the system.
   To determine if the IKE (in.iked(1M)) daemon is not running on a
   system that has IKE configured, the following command can be run:
    $ pgrep in.iked || echo
    "in.iked not running but should be"

   4. Workaround

   There is no workaround for this issue. Please see the Resolution
   section below.

   5. Resolution

   This issue is addressed in the following releases:

   SPARC Platform
     * Solaris 9 with patch 113451-15 or later
     * Solaris 10 with patch 140196-01 or later
     * Opensolaris based upon build snv_100 or later

   x86 Platform
     * Solaris 9 with patch 114435-14 or later
     * Solaris 10 with patch 140414-01 or later
     * Opensolaris based upon build snv_100 or later
