Impact A security vulnerability in the wget(1) command shipped with Solaris may allow a local or remote unprivileged user who provides a specially crafted certificate signed by a legitimate Certification Authority to intercept encrypted HTTP (HTTPS) communication between the wget(1) client and a web server using a man-in-the-middle (MITM) attack. Additional information regarding this issue is available at: * CVE-2009-3490 at: http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2009-3490 2. Contributing Factors This issue can occur in the following releases: SPARC Platform * Solaris 9 with patch 125326-01 * Solaris 10 without patch 125215-03 * OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_01 through snv_125 x86 Platform * Solaris 9 with patch 125327-01 * Solaris 10 without patch 125216-03 * OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_01 through snv_125 Note 1: OpenSolaris distributions may include additional bug fixes above and beyond the build from which it was derived. To determine the base build of OpenSolaris, the following command can be used: $ uname -v snv_86 Note 2: HTTPS protocol support for the wget(1) command in Solaris 9 was added via patches 125326-01 (SPARC) and 125327-01 (x86). Therefore, Solaris 9 is only vulnerable if one of these patches is installed. Note 3: Solaris 8 does not include support for the wget(1) command and therefore is not impacted by this issue. 3. Symptoms There are no predictable symptoms that would indicate the described issue has been exploited on a system. 4. Workaround There is no workaround for this issue. Please see the Resolution section below. 5. Resolution This issue is addressed in the following releases: SPARC Platform * Solaris 10 with patch 125215-03 or later * OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_126 or later x86 Platform * Solaris 10 with patch 125216-03 or later * OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_126 or later A final resolution is pending completion for Solaris 9.
